Busser

Opened in 1952, Cuyama Buckhorn has been an institution for locals and driver’s by from Santa Maria to Bakersfield for decades, as well a destination for car and motorcycle clubs. Our historic establishment is under new management and our property is undergoing a full renovation that will breathe new life into The Buckhorn and the entire Cuyama Valley. Once complete the property will boast a restaurant, coffee shop, bar and 22 - room inn with meeting and event spaces. The renovation is happening in waves, so we are looking for new additions to add to our wonderful team right away!

We are looking for a busser who is hardworking, dependable and has an interest in hospitality/customer service to help make Cuyama Buckhorn a warm and inviting place for the city of New Cuyama and visiting guests. 

Qualifications:

  • Past Restaurant Experience (a major plus, but not required)  

  • Dependable, driven and timely

  • Ability to work independently and on a team

  • Eagerness to explore other areas of our business and be cross-trained in other departments (i.e. serving, barista or bartending)

  • California Food Handlers permit on file or obtained within 30 days of hire

BARTENDER

  • Part-time (Friday-Sunday + Special Events)

We are looking to hire a bartender who is energetic, charismatic and passionate about hospitality and drinks to help create a warm and inviting place for the city of New Cuyama and visiting guests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of beers, cocktails, and wines, a must!

  • Must have bartending experience

  • Dependable, driven and timely

  • Ability to work independently and on a team

  • Eagerness to explore other areas of our business and be cross-trained in other departments a major plus! (i.e. serving, events, barista or bartending)

  • California Food Handlers permit on file or obtained within 30 days of hire

  • Alcohol Tips Certification on file or obtained within 30 days of hire

Opened in 1952, the Buckhorn has been an institution for locals and driver’s by from Santa Maria to Bakersfield for decades, as well a destination for car and motorcycle clubs. We are looking to hire a line-cook who is energetic and passionate about hospitality and cooking and wants to help create a warm and inviting place for the city of New Cuyama and visiting guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment

  • Assumes 100% responsibility for the quality of products served

  • Knows and complies consistently with instructed portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures

  • Excited to try new things and eagerness to learn

  • Assists Executive Chef with orders and tracking of food quantities

  • Preps, stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period

  • Portions food products before cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications

  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work station area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range, and refrigeration equipment

  • Prepares item for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and marinating

  • Follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes

  • Follows sanitation guidelines set forth by Health Department and Executive Chef

  • Handles, stores and rotates all products properly to ensure that the kitchen is fully stocked and that all food being served is as fresh as possible

  • Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed

  • Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations. Assists others in closing the kitchen

  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and staff outings

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chef or manager-on-duty

QUALIFICATIONs:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Passion for cooking

  • 0-2 years varied experience in kitchen preparation and cooking

  • Must live or be able to commute to New Cuyama on a regular basis

  • Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel

  • California Food Handlers permit on file or obtained within 30 days of hire

Barista / front desk

We are looking to hire a barista/front of desk who is energetic and passionate about hospitality and drinks and wants to help create a warm and inviting place for the city of New Cuyama and visiting guests.

Barista responsibilities:

  • Ability to handle money and operate reservation and POS systems

  • Work clean while servicing guests

  • Can stay level headed and efficient during rushes and down time

  • Beverage prep work

  • Latte art (a major plus!)

  • Cleaning

  • Assisting with hotel/restaurant, when needed

front desk responsibilities:

  • Greet all guests who walk through the doors

  • Educate guests about the property, city, and menu items

  • Check people in and out of rooms

  • Answering phone and guest inquiries

  • Manual bookings through the phone

  • Settling balance for hotel guests

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a barista or front desk position

  • Have the personality to gain repeat guests

  • Food handlers certification (can obtain during training)

  • Knowledge of manual/automatic espresso machines and coffee in general

  • Dependable and open to helping out the team

  • Past experience in working events within restaurants (a major plus!)
