Originally established in 1952 as a roadside stop for weary travelers and a gathering place for the community, The Buckhorn Restaurant & Bar has become a historic establishment nestled in The Hidden Valley of Enchantment featuring unexpected farm-to-table comfort food for everyone to celebrate.
While The Buckhorn will always offer our nostalgic classics, we have a new focus on connecting our food and beverage offerings to the local bounty of our valley. We offer thoughtfully crafted, seasonal dishes in partnership with our neighboring farms, ranches, and like-minded organizations.

Helmed by Bar Manager, Brandon Gomez, our beverage program places the same standards on sourcing small-batch spirits and wine from nearby distilleries and wineries. We also highlight the local produce of our area in our house-made liqueurs, bitters and seasonal syrups.

We offer contact-free dinner deliveries to be enjoyed in-room, on guests’ semi-private patio spaces or in our outdoor common areas each evening. All rooms are stocked with locally-sourced snacks, spirits, wine, and beer, as well as complimentary Verve coffee and Teapigs tea to look forward to when you wake up! Help yourself rise & shine by adding a breakfast box, featuring farm fresh ingredients, to your stay.

We believe that what we eat and how we choose to eat matters. By learning where our food comes from and how it’s grown, consciously making our food choices, and investing in the localization of our food, we are able to create a more sustainable future for our local land, community, and the greater world. We draw on and collaborate with our community and like-minded organizations in order to model this ideal, bring awareness to the importance of localizing food systems, and to help complete this dependent circle in our own region.
We work to highlight the products and goods originating from our valley and our neighboring cities in every area of our property, from our food and beverage offerings in the bar and restaurant, to the mini bar trays in our guest rooms, to the retail products and farm fresh produce and groceries in our market.
Originally a Bay Area native, Chef Daniel has spent most of his career cooking around the world at Aman Resorts in remote destinations including; Cambodia, Utah, and Turks and Caicos. We’re thrilled to feature his global culinary expertise at our rural, high desert retreat.
Chef Daniel’s love for cooking started at a young age. He grew up spending much of his time at his grandmother’s house after school and during the summers—helping cook as the unofficial sous chef for his grandmother, who, despite being blind, was an excellent chef. “She was a phenomenal cook, that is where I fell in love with the kitchen.”
The idea of a culinary career first dawned on Horn while attending a career fair in high school, where the California Culinary Association eventually recruited him. Refusing to let his lack of professional kitchen experience stop him, Horn knew he belonged in the culinary arts world—ultimately enrolling in the culinary education program.
Chef Daniel is devoted to keeping simplicity and quality at the forefront through his straightforward yet amplified dishes that highlight our abundant local ingredients. “I want guests to experience the valley through our food.”
From elevating our daily diner comfort food with farm fresh ingredients, to his weekly specials highlighting in-season local produce, to his memorable multi-course, farm-to-table meals for our Culinary Experiences, his expertise shines through in all areas of our food and beverage program.
We work to support our local community by connecting our offerings to the bounty of the Valley. We strive to highlight the beautiful ingredients being grown right here in Cuyama, and our neighboring cities, in all of our culinary programs. We pride ourselves on curating unforgettable experiences centered around seasonal meals that let these beautiful, local ingredients speak for themselves, as well as opportunities for everyone to be a part of the culinary process from sourcing to cooking to celebrating over a shared meal.
