We are looking for someone who is energetic and passionate about hospitality and wants to create a warm and inviting place for our historic, revitalized establishment. The ideal candidate must be excited to push this project forward through the renovation and towards new initiatives. We will need someone who is results driven and is proactive and not reactive. The Hotel and Restaurant General Manager will be collaborate with management on the decision-making of policies, goals, and overall direction of Cuyama Buckhorn and will be responsible for the successful implementation of this exciting endeavor. 

One of our property’s most iconic elements is The Buckhorn Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant has many treasured favorites, such as the Santa Maria tri-tip grilled on the property’s cherished Red Oak grill. While The Buckhorn will always offer nostalgic classics, the eatery is also receiving updates, including the addition of the Buck Stop Coffee Shop and a more farm-to-table focused menu. The Buckhorn team is also working on a full catering and events department with banquet menu offerings. responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the entire property

  • Hiring and personnel management of all staff

  • Providing continual training for all staff to ensure that service standards are consistently met

  • Providing leadership and direction to all departments

  • Monitoring and controlling hotel’s P&L, and overseeing restaurant financials, to ensure operational expenses and labor costs are met

  • Reporting financial reports and any issues that may arise to ownership

  • Coming up with creative ideas for the property to drive sales, improve the facility, increase staff engagement and morale, improve and create systems and processes, and improve guest experience

  • Collaborating and implementing marketing and sales initiatives with the owners and rest of management team

  • Building positive relationships with guests, staff, potential clients, owners, suppliers, partners and members of the local community

  • Being available off-hours, when necessary

  • Being willing and available to work weekends and holidays


  • 3-4 years in a leadership role in hospitality, preferably a hotel with full service (BLD) and bar

  • Has been on an opening team of a restaurant/hotel, a plus!

  • Strong understanding of the financials involved in operating a successful hotel and restaurant

  • A people person, with strong communication skills, who is able to build a collaborative team and trusting relationships

  • Strong leadership skills, management skills, customer relations skills, training skills, and project management skills

  • Must live in Cuyama, CA

About cuyama Buckhorn:

Cuyama Buckhorn was founded in 1952 as a roadside stop for weary travelers to enjoy a meal in good company and rest up before continuing on their journey. More than 60 years later, Cuyama Buckhorn remains an historic establishment and a local gem.

Ferial Sadeghian and Jeff Vance, business partners and architects, purchased the property in March of 2018. They are working to restore and improve the property and business model by highlighting the history of the surrounding valley and Cuyama Buckhorn; restoring the mid-century style of the property; and sourcing food, beverage and retail offerings from local valley and neighboring city partners. The inn and grounds are undergoing a full renovation, which, once complete, will feature a new lobby, outdoor and indoor event and meeting spaces, a new pool, and more. The first completed project is The Buck Stop Coffee Shop, which is bringing high quality, California-roasted coffee to Cuyama in partnership with Verve Coffee Roasters.
